The choice of this material as electrode for TIG welding is due to the fact that it is the metal with the highest melting point of 3410°, compared to iron 1536°, copper 1038° or aluminum 660°.
Uses of each electrode
- Green Tip – Pure (Most commonly used for AC welding)
- Red tip 2% TH – Thorium
- Gray tip – 2% Cerium – CE
- Black tip – 1% Lanthanum – LTH
- Gold tip – 1.5% Lanthanum – LTH
